Develop Leaders

A good entrepreneurial friend once told me you manage tasks like schedules and budgets but you don't manage people - YOU LEAD THEM.  Employees want to be inspired and led, and your best lead is to foster open and honest communication. Be open enough to allow criticism of yourself.  Learning to defuse anger and manage conflict will contribute to a more productive workplace. We all have weak moments where improper statements are made in the heat of a discussion.  Admit them and move on.  Creating an open forum to voice differences will foster an atmosphere of cooperation.  Good leaders eventually come to this conclusion and develop the thick skin required to nurture this type of program.  Effective leaders understand their primary function is to enable ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.  What yields the best performance is to help people manage themselves; don't micromanage them.  Bright people with the proper information and autonomy make the right decisions; it's been proven time and time again.
