Know Your Employees

A good CEO will always know the pulse of the company they run.  If you don’t, you are spending too much time in the glass house.  Stay in close touch with your employees using informal exchanges like sharing a coffee break or occasionally lunch together or move out of your office into a cubicle.  Press the pavement, spent a day or two of each month in the field with the sales and support staff and always keep an open access policy to your employees.  By cultivating access to the top dog within the company, it builds pride and loyalty within the ranks.  Develop a feel for who your front line people are and what they are capable of doing.  This is time well spent because it will validate if the company's vision is being communicated by upper management and is being executed by the front line staff.  Without this feedback, your company could be hemorrhaging talent and money without you knowing it until it is too late. There is no better barometer of measuring the operational wellness of your company than consistent feedback from your employees.
