Since it was founded in 2001, Newegg.com has been heading on a growth path. Based on its nearly $1 billion in sales in 2004, Newegg found itself on the Internet Retailer magazine’s list of the Internet’s Top 10 retailers in 2005. And just four short years later, it was listed as No. 234 on America’s Largest Private Companies list, published by Forbes. In 2012, it reported more than $2.7 billion in revenue – a substantial jump from its debut appearance on the top retailers list.
 
Since last year, when the team at NetSphere Strategies first profiled Newegg, the company has continued to make headlines. Here are some of the most notable:
 
Newegg announces its Black November 2013As retailers across the United States buck trends and release their door-buster deals before Black Friday actually hits, Newegg proves just how far ahead of the curve it really is. Since 2010, Newegg has embraced the entire month of November as a powerful vehicle for sales. This year, it announces its Black November for the third year running.
 
Newegg opens its first ever pop-up store in southern California: For three days, consumers were given a hands-on chance to try out the latest back-to-school technology products. According to Newegg’s chief marketing officer, “Newegg has already built an outstanding reputation for being a trusted online retailer of computers and electronics. We’re thrilled to open Newegg’s first ever pop-up store and hope our customers enjoy this special opportunity.”
 
Newegg debuts its new flash sale site: Getting on board with the daily-deal trend, Newegg announced its new site, NeweggFlash.com in July. With price reductions of up to 75 percent, Newegg recommends that consumers act fast to take advantage of the deep discounts.
 
Newegg introduces its “Shipped by Newegg” fulfillment service: To ease merchants’ workloads, Newegg has been helping sellers get their products into the hands of customers more efficiently and cost effectively. The program, which was announced this June, allows marketplace sellers to take advantage of Newegg’s vast logistics operations, improving the ability for lightning-fast delivery and overall customer satisfaction.
 
Newegg wins key shopping cart patent lawsuit: At the beginning of 2013, Newegg won a case that involved a shopping cart patent and Soverain Software, which has been referred to by some as a “patent troll.” In a press release, Newegg described the victory as a win for the eCommerce industry as a whole, “which was threatened by Soverain’s attempts to assert patents supposedly covering basic online processes used by virtually all e-commerce retailers.”
